Jesus— Our Burden Bearer

On way too many occasions, we attempt to carry things that we should not be lifting by ourselves. Whether the burden is emotional, spiritual, mental, or physical, we are not alone.

Because we live in a culture that preaches self-sufficiency and independence, we can often view our weaknesses as undesirable traits. However, it is in those weaknesses that we get the opportunity to see God’s strength.

Without giving ourselves the experience to rely on him, we falsely believe that we are better off doing things in our own power, using our wisdom, and the tools that we have gathered.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Jesus has offered to help shoulder the burdens we face.

29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Prayer

Father, I thank you that I get to come before you and bring my burdens to the cross.

Thank you for providing me with a place that I can go to —and leave from, knowing that you have seen, heard , and have had compassion on me.

We are called to take up our cross and deny ourselves daily— which, without you, would be impossible. I am grateful that your yoke is easy and your burden is light.

Jesus I thank you that you are our Healer, Comforter, and Counselor.

I thank you that we get to come to you each and every day, throughout the day, as many times as we need to.

Thank you for your presence, your grace, your mercy, and the blood you have shed for us. Amen.
